I bought into the strategy of buying one large circular polarizer and using step up rings to fit it to the correct lens. I didn’t want to shell out $100+ for a polarizer for each lens, so I figured an 82 mm polarizer would pretty good to cover the whole range of lenses I own and would buy in the future. But I noticed that when I put it on my 77 mm step up ring to 82 mm, that I still got some vignetting at the 24 mm focal length. I even got the slim version of the polarizer.
I’m debating what I should do. In all honesty I can live with it for now since I can just do some post processing to get rid of the editing, but it is annoying. The only other alternatives are to go down to the 77 mm and avoid it at that specific lens size, but would probably experience it again at 72 mm or lower lens size. The other alternative is to go to a 95 mm filter, but the filter cost would shoot up above $300. That’s a different annoyance entirely.
For those new to polarizers, figure your filter strategy for your polarizers carefully.
